In the standard gauge roundhouse at Elk, there are several  steam locomotives that see occasional excursion service, and one that doesn't.  Kinda reminded me of the Cheyenne roundhouse a few years ago -- except no Big Boys.  However, there is a 2-10-0 -- which is about as big as they got in Poland.

Elk is still a very busy engine terminal.  The original roundhouse was built in 1918.  The large structure next to it is a roundhouse built during the 1980's!  But it was never used as intended.

Near the roundhouse are the water tower and a 2-10-0, a very interesting coaling facility, and firefighting equipment.

Freight cars and marshalling yards are a common sight on the PKP.  Freight trains are not. Either they run mostly at night, somewhere else, or hardly ever. But  I did see a rather impressive one, complete with pusher,  rolling through  Elk.
